Matt Tarrant: MORE Unsolved – 5 stars

Well I’m still scratching my head…I have NO idea how he did these magic and mentalist tricks. Matt Tarrant tells us that his show is much more than magic. It is “real life magic”…and it is. It feels real. Yes, we want to be tricked. Who doesn’t want to go back to some of that wonder and enchantment felt in childhood? But the most cynical and learned of us are still in awe. This is contemporary sorcery and skill at its best.

Matt begins his show with an engaging introduction video, which really increases the energy and anticipation in the room. The audio is crisp and clear and set at the perfect volume. The venue is airconditioned and comfortable with excellent views. Matt enters the stage and the energy lifts even more. He is pumped and we can all feel it.

Professional and slick right from the first moment, Matt introduces himself and requests an audience volunteer to help him with the first trick. He is warm and friendly and immediately puts everyone at ease. It turns out that he needs audience help with all of his tricks, but he sets up such an inclusive and safe environment that it really removes the anxiety that audience participation often evokes.

This show has a combination of magic and mentalism. Matt eases us in with a few seemingly simple tricks and we are left mesmerised and in wonder. The show picks up pace and becomes even more jaw dropping. Matt uses the large video screens to augment the experience or show detail that would otherwise be missed.

It is difficult to describe this show without giving away the surprises and it’s the surprise factor that draws the awe. We just never know what is coming. Matt varies the pace of the show and uses humour and his vivacious personality to keep it moving. He has immense stagemanship and is fluid and flawless.

Matt tells us that this show will keep us awake at night and we will be asking, “How the hell did that magician do that?” Turns out that was an accurate prediction (another one – that is his forte after all). I can’t stop thinking about this show. No matter how many possibilities I can generate, there is no solution. I don’t know how he could conceivably “do that”. It is magic. I am a believer.
