Holden Street Theatres

Guest reviewer: Helen Lewis

There’s a whole lot more to the Fringe than the big venues in the city. Tucked away in Hindmarsh – behind the Soccer Stadium is the Holden Street Theatres – a complex of several small theatres, a bar, and food truck. We were fortunate to attend their Media launch and saw three shows …

“A Star is Torn” – A comedian on the way down, meets a comedian on the way up, devised by and featuring Australian stand up comedian, Greg Fleet. Has to be said the preview got off to a rocky start, but Holden Street’s own Martha Lotta has subsequently stepped in and no doubt the production will have benefitted from her deft and experienced hand.

“Jesus, Jane, Mother and Me” – How hard it be growing up, when you’re a little bit different, and a little bit obsessive. A stunning single hander by 19 year old Jack Stokes and well deserved winner of a Adelaide Fringe Weekly Critics Circle Award.

“Mustard” – When consolation from a love lost is found in your favourite condiment. Another single hander, beautifully eloquently and visually performed by Irish actor Eva O’Connor. https://avr.adelaidefringe.com.au/media_information/195bccb4-6164-4baf-bb55-dcac74ef53a0

All three shows continue until March 19, but there is much more on offer at Holden Street Theatres.
