There is still plenty of time to squeeze in some Adelaide Fringe shows and I was pleasantly surprised to learn what a fantastic and varied program Tandanya is offering.
Showcasing a mix of local talent as well as interstate and overseas, across genres such as dance, comedy, theatre, circus, magic and more, there really is something for everyone.
I was lucky to see a preview snippet of some amazing hula hoop action from Boss Squad, “an all-female cast of acrobats changing the stereotypes of women in circus. Watch as teeterboard, acrobatics, tumbling, hula hoops, sideshow, German wheel and more take the stage in a celebration of what women can achieve and how we can support each other in our boldest adventures.” (find out more in the ticket link below)
Another show that caught my eye and one that really is unique, is Scientology the Musical. Best described in their own words, “George Glass is an Adelaide based cryptocurrency and machine learning comedy group who have performed in festivals around the world for the last 7 years. They also have their own currency, Glasscoin. With an eclectic mix of instruments ranging from funk guitar and bass all the way to piano accordion and saxophone, George Glass have brought to life a unique brand of music-comedy. Writing and performing musicals about funeral homes, pornography and politics, George Glass have now turned their compass toward religion, using Scientology as the springboard to open the conversation. With the release of their debut album Scientology The Musical, George Glass are taking their show of the same name around the world in their quest for comedy glory and musical enlightenment.”
Tandanya is a venue with plenty of light and airy space, a bar, very welcome airconditioning and is conveniently located in the East End. If you haven’t been there, I recommend putting it on your list. There are also events and fabulous art exhibitions all year round.
